This is what I love about Jimmy. It’s true of all great musicians, whether it’s Coltrane or Miles or Hendrix or Tony Williams, and it’s also true of great thinkers and philosophers. They have discovered their great individuality and cultivated it. This is the greatest of all spiritual, enlightened questions—“Who am I? What is ‘I’?” In a way, this question can never be answered. We can only strive for our own perfect individuality, and to be ourselves without compromise.
