Dear Friends,
I write to inform you that due to extenuating circumstances , I was obliged to sever my association with Christophe Deghelt and his company, both formal and informal.
For two months he has blocked my access to my Twitter and Facebook accounts for reasons unknown.
Because of this, I have created a new Twitter account that is called: @jmcl_gtr
Please inform as many of your friends as quickly as possible that anything that can be found in the old Twitter account: @JMcLaughlinTour has no connection whatsoever to me, and all enquiries concerning myself, my recordings and tours can only be found on the new account @jmcl_gtr
Please excuse this confusing situation, but we will be up and running within a day or two.
Many thanks and warmest wishes to you all,
John
I’m glad you caught this John . Good overcomes bad all the time ! It pays off to be cautious . GOD bless you with more power to you !
Dear John,
Sorry to hear about the break with Deghelt. Indeed, I just sent an email two days ago to Deghelt productions, so perhaps I should just send it to you directly.
I am resident in Japan, and I would like to interview you when you come here in March. I am very well acquainted with your musical history and I have seen you play live many times. I have even photographed you (as you can check in the jazz website above). I sent you an academic paper of mine on Irish poetry a few short years ago and we briefly communicated by email. I am interested in the interplay between artistic media (and am currently working on some solid connections between The Beatles and literature). The parametres of any interview, however, need not be determined beforehand. I simply believe that any interview I could hold with you would cover less travelled paths. I am an active One Worder and often contribute to the JMcL Facebook page (and I have read the Kolosky books also). I also play guitar and believe my own music to be influenced by you (among others). I have the highest respect for you. The contents of any possible interview would be made available for a high-profile magazine, not my website.
Of course I will enjoy your shows at the Blue Note Tokyo. I hope to bring my whole family. And if an interview is alas not possible, c’est la vie! All fortune and happiness to you! Enjoy Japan!
ps I am an Associate Professor (specializing in Irish & Medieval English literature). My own university website is here:

Dear John, I met and interviewed you in Soho,London, and in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne back in 1988/89.I’m from Belfast-I was a school teacher. I gave you a copy of James Joyce’s ‘Ulysses’ and a book of poems by the late Seamus Heaney. You were playing with Trilok and Jeff Berlin.I spent a large part of a Saturday afternoon with you in Newcastle as you prepared for that evening’s two concerts.I then saw you briefly at the soundcheck for your Royal Festival Hall concert/recording.The concert was inspirational. The magazines I did the interviews for were Dublin’s JazzNews[now defunct],and Guitarist. I have followed your career since I first heard you on the John Peel Show,1971/72.My brother Martin, who lives near Tokyo, will be seeing you play in March I think. I would like to thank you for your exceptionally good music over the years, and also wish you all the best at what might be a difficult time in your life.I remain convinced that you will resolve any management problems and come out of this situation even stronger. Yours Sincerely, Jim Connolly.
Sounds like Mr. Deghelt made quite a mess there, sorry to hear that. Obviously it’s not up to us to judge anyone from the outside of whatever was happening, but cutting the artist out of his own Twitter account speaks pretty clearly about who crossed the line here, so… max support to John.
You’re still John to me.
I am sorry to hear of the passing of your great friend and musical collaborator, the great Paco de Lucia. I grew up listening to his music, often the discs you made together. You made the best music together and I share in your sadness and that of everyone who ever heard the sweet, wonderful sounds he made. Very sad.
I clearly remember that I read once an interwiew of you, in a french magazine( « Acoustic » ,i think), where you said that you would never play in China, as long as the chinese governement would go on treating the tibetan people the way he does.Did something change, in the last years, that I did not notice about Tibet?
Sincerely yours, since many years.Bob
Dear John – I just wanted to tell you that I’ve been waiting for 30 years to hear and see you play in concert, and now finally, on 16 March in Manila, the moment is there. Your music, in its many carnations, has been a part of my life ever since I heard « Right off » for the first time, when I was about 15 years old. It’s truly a dream come true! See you on Sunday … Safe travels, Hans
