November of 2011 marks the 40th anniversary of the start of the original Mahavishnu Orchestra’s phenomenal ascent to become the most heralded of all jazz-rock bands. It was in that month of 1971 that the band released its debut album, The Inner Mounting Flame, and began a relentless touring schedule. The first incarnation of the group lasted only thirty months, but four decades later you can’t turn around without bumping into a new Mahavishnu Orchestra tribute band, tribute album or yet another cover interpretation of the group’s trailblazing music.

A well written review of my favorite band ! 40 years time does not diminish the enthusiasm . I believe in miracles… I hope they all get together again and call it THE MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA REVIVAL … including new compositions !
« Inner Mounting Flame » is one of the greatest albums ever made, and it sounds just as great now as it did then.
Just read the interview, very exciting that John has remixed live Mahavishnu material, which includes unreleased live material. I’m afraid I also read that the live material will be included in a box set with the original studio recordings of which we McLaughlin fans have already purchase two or three times, at minimum. I’m so tired of being fleeced by record companies… it probably won’t stop until they go out business due to their own ongoing stupidity.
