For the past four decades it seems guitarist and composer John McLaughlin has been about forty years ahead of everyone else. He has thrived in a cross-section of musical genres. In fact, his 50-year career has been a case study in how to create new genres.
After paying his dues in the London music scene of the 60s, McLaughlin came to New York City to play in the trailblazing jazz-rock of Tony Williams’s Lifetime band. Very quickly came revelatory performances with the legendary Miles Davis. In the early 70s, with a double-neck electric guitar as an appendage, he led his historic Mahavishnu Orchestra– fusion music’s first supergroup.

A very good interview, thank you guys.
Thank you JOHNJI for this humble & right to the point interview.
I’m listening to the FLOATING POINT for 8 days & nights straight. Then I’m ready to run 7.5KM a day plus lots of hard core sports.
The DVD is fantastically produced except that A) Hadrien is not there!? I know that he recorded his track separately but still one like to see him play.
B) The DVD picture quality is highly compressed. One can easily see the squares throughout the whole program. Please think about Blu Ray or reissue a less compressed DVD.
Live Long JOHNJI…
Cheers.

John, thanks for the whole abstractlogix thing it’s great to have all the new stuff from you. I got everything. When I heard The Unknown Dissident live in Durham, NC, it brought me back to when I bought that album Electric Dreams in Bermuda when it came out and I first heard it with David Sanborn on sax. Thank you so much. Floating Point is outstanding I’m getting more into the synth guitar sound that you used on it. I thought the 2 flute compositions were excellent. And I love Raju. I’ve been playing a Godin Montreal for 2 years with just echo and reverb because of you. It’s quite fun. Keep up the fantastic work. Don’t stop. Please put out as much as you can you will not flood the market as your guy in Cary, NC told me that’s what you didn’t want to do. You are playing better than ever.Take care.
john’s inspiration is universal and for eternity
