John, my husband and I just spent the weekend listening to Love Devotion and Surrender over and over again for the first time in many years. I found it just as emotionally powerful and invigorating as it was the first time I heard it in 1973. In particular, « The Life Divine » has always stood out for me.
My husband saw you about a dozen times in Ohio in your Mahavishnu days (when he told me that, I knew I would marry him), and a number of years ago I regularly attended services at the Vedanta Centre in Cohasset, MA which I was told you were visiting at that time. I was not certain it was you, and I was too shy to actually approach you, so let me take this chance to thank you for your body of work, which always turns my face back toward the Divine.
There are four drummers credited on this album. I can detect Billy Cobham on « The life Divine » but I am not certain about the drummers on the other tracks. Could you offer the personel on the other tracks?
Hearing this album as a teenager brought me to John Coltrane, and a better understanding of the way music touches and shapes the soul. That album felt like a gift for me from you and Carlos. I have tickets to see you this December in San Francisco. Thank You for making one more trip to the States. I think you will feel the joy and appreciation and excitement from your Stateside fans who have waited so long to see you perform.
I loved this record when it came out, and I was fortunate to see you and Carlos play at the Santa Monica Civic. I am a guitarist, not really a jazz guitarist, but hearing A Love Supreme steered me into Coltrane. Another beautiful album that I I have enjoyed for many years.
