Chick Corea and John McLaughlin

April 3rd, 2008 · 24 Comments

Chick Corea and John McLaughlin are still challenging the precepts of music. It was almost 40 years ago, when the two first played together with the legendary Miles Davis. Since then, Corea and McLaughlin have redefined jazz, rock and world music and have become giants in their own right. They are about to embark on a journey that will continue to stretch musical boundaries.

In the early 70s, McLaughlin’s Mahavishnu Orchestra and Corea’s Return to Forever bands set jazz-rock instrumental standards that are still in place today. McLaughlin went on to form the trailblazing Indo-jazz fusion unit Shakti, play with the famous Guitar Trio, and compose and perform classical concertos. Corea toured the world playing solo piano, duets with Herbie Hancock and Gary Burton and formed acoustic and electric bands to much critical acclaim. Now these two icons, winners of too many music awards to mention, are combining forces to set the world on its ear once again. They will be joined by three of the most accomplished contemporary jazz players of our time. John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Christian McBride, Kenny Garrett and Vinnie Colaiuta are The Five Peace Band. Coming soon!

I can’t wait…it’s funny how back in the 70’s and early 80’s we took great fusion music almost for granted. When it left, or became not so available, I for one realized that it is a necessary artform for minds and souls that travel the not so traveled path in life.

    john & chick,

I bought your concert ticket on the first day, and told my friends to get their tickets immediatelly … Of course they did… We ‘ll be watching from the first line in the concert hall in Ankara… What an amazing chance……I had been your concert in Istanbul couple of years ago and could not forget that dreaming music night, particularly some couple of words that I spoke to you after the concert, together with Zakhir Hussein…

    Dear John and Chick,

Tonight we will see and hear you at the World Forum Theatre in The Hague. We know this concert will be marvellous on beforehand.
Since your first collaborations with Miles Davis, e.g. ‘In A Silent Way’ and ‘Bitches Brew’ we were enjoying your music.
Also later on we listened to ‘Return To Forever’ and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Groundbreaking and important music for us all.

    Thanks for that.

    Charles and Ruud
