No Chicago date? St. Louis is a long drive for your many fans in the near east states. Oh well maybe we can get lucky and a date can get squeezed in somewhere…how about Indianapolis, I have a few venues in mind.

  • 2 Denizman // Jul 14, 2010 at 1:29 am

I would appreciate any information on where and when the tickets will be available. I am planning on catching them in Atlanta.

I am also disappointed to see no Chicago date. I am a huge fan and I have not had the pleasure of seeing the 4th. Dimension yet. The last time they played in Chicago I was out of the state and missed the show. I hope a date or two can be added.

  • 5 Max // Jul 15, 2010 at 9:13 pm

No Chicago OR Minneapolis? You’re kidding, right? Living in Minneapolis, I’m use to taking the occasional trip to Chicago for certain concerts. But whoever booked this thing needs to be re-trained to know where the TRUE fans are.

    Denver Boulder will MISS YOU!!!

  • 7 Ed // Jul 19, 2010 at 5:28 pm

Are there any plans to release a DVD of one of these concerts?

  • 8 Larry White // Jul 20, 2010 at 4:33 pm

Any word on a Chicago date for the 4th Dimension?

  • 9 Phil // Jul 21, 2010 at 6:48 pm

I’d like to add my voice to those hoping a Chicago date or 2 can can be added. I’ve had the pleasure to see John live in Madison many years ago and even Indy, at the Vogue, some years back. I’d love to able to see this incarnation of his music in the Windy City.

John- Please come to Minneapolis as you KNOW we love you so much. I know it is cold up here in Nov/Dec but our LOVE will warm you. Your last time here at The Dakota was THE BEST EVER. But if not I will drive to St Louis. You are worth.the drive. As you are the BEST GUITARIST EVER! Love from…Tim

  • 13 Brian // Jul 24, 2010 at 4:54 am

Woohoo! Glad to see a Southern date, I’m sorry, TWO dates, this time around. That means I don’t have to drive 15 hours to Chicago! And I get to see them twice! Thank you, John!

  • 14 Brian // Jul 24, 2010 at 4:56 am

And hey, Max, I drove all the way from Baton Rouge TO Chicago to see John & the 4th Dimension last time, so let’s not talk about where the true fans are ;) .

  • 15 Randell Walton // Jul 26, 2010 at 7:07 pm

I am looking for an on sale date for the 11/30 Santa Fe NM Concert. No info yet at Lensic Theater website!

  • 16 tiki atomica // Jul 26, 2010 at 9:36 pm

I am also amazed there is no Chicago date. A fan since My Goals Beyond… one of my favorite concerts memories of all time was seeing/ hearing JM play solo at a Buddhist temple in Chicago in the early 70′s. Please add a Chicago date so his upper Midwest fans have a place to see him.

  • 17 Boss Glebe // Jul 30, 2010 at 11:46 am

How about a Colorado show?? Please!!

  • 18 Larry White // Jul 30, 2010 at 3:40 pm

How come there has been no answer regarding a 4th Dimension date for Chicago?

  • 19 Noreen // Jul 31, 2010 at 9:24 pm

Please, please set a date in St. Paul/Minneapolis or Chicago. Thank You!!!!!!!

  • 20 Tom // Aug 6, 2010 at 3:12 pm

    John,

How about a Detroit, Chicago or Indy date?. Hope you can add some more dates in these cities. Always have loved your music.

  • 21 Erfie DaWerfie // Aug 12, 2010 at 6:20 am

I haven’t missed a show in 30 years, John. You would

Completely over the no Chicago date, have my ticket for the St. Louis show. It looks like it wil be a wonderful venue. How about recording a “bootleg” like you did on the last US tour…it makes the long drive home much more enjoyable.

  • 27 Chris // Sep 11, 2010 at 3:27 pm

I too was hoping to see you play in Minneapolis.

  • 28 Larry White // Sep 11, 2010 at 4:37 pm

I still can’t believe the band is not going to come to Chicago!!!!!!!!

  • 29 kevin // Sep 15, 2010 at 8:43 pm

  • 30 Paul Hansen // Sep 19, 2010 at 7:02 am

Like tiki atomica, I was also at JM’s solo acoustic concert at the Midwest Buddhist Temple (in Chicago) in the early 70′s. Actually, he was accompanied by wife (?) playing drone. The Hare Krishnas handed out free (!) incense on the way in, and John asked everyone to not applaud till the end. The concert was incredible, felt like a guided tour through some number of spiritual universes. Wow.

  • 31 Lee Brodinsky // Sep 23, 2010 at 7:43 pm

Thanks for playing Seattle. I have my seats for the Jazz Alley show and hotel arranged, making the trip from Portland OR.

There is a Portland show listed but is this erroneous, nobody here has heard of that venue.

    See you in Atlanta, Johnny!

  • 36 Rich // Nov 7, 2010 at 2:45 am

I’m from the Chicago area and have been going to Milwaukee for shows lately. The only problem is the freakin Bears are playing that night. Let’s see, I’ve seen the Bears lose 3 times so far this year and have NEVER seen McLaughlin, gonna be a tough decision.

  • 37 Mark K. // Nov 8, 2010 at 12:45 am

The jazz fest in Playa del Carmen should be fantastic – glad you look to be enjoying a little break there with other great talents. I love the place despite getting more and more (over) developed every visit. I’m tempted to see you there on the beach instead of standing in Boston.

  • 38 Guy // Nov 12, 2010 at 4:06 am

So disappointed that I missed you in Québec City
John. I saw your picture in the newspaper this morning and my heart went bizurk….
Thank you anyway for the inspiring music,

I saw John and the 4th Dimension in Philadelphia last night. The show was surreal. I have seen John with the original Mahavishnu Orchestra, Shakti, Five Peace Band and the 4th Dimension. The shows have always been spectacular. The Philadelphia show was the best. The band really has it together more than any group I have seen. I don’t know how John continues to push the envelope. There are limited USA dates. I would highly recommend traveling any distance to see John and the $th Dimension on this tour. You will not be disappointed.

I attended the show at the Birchmere tonight and I am still on a natural high. This was my ninth or tenth JML concert. My first was Shakti at the Cellar Door in 1977 on the Natural Elements tour. The musicians that perform with JML are always top notch, and this new lineup with E. M’bappe, M. Mondesir, and G. Husband was fantastic. This is the closest I have ever been to the stage at the Birchmere, and as always, words cannot begin to express the experience that awaits the listener who will encounter his music at home or in concert. Tonight’s set list, as best as I can recall it, featured Raju, The Unknown Dissident, The Fine Line, Solli, Nostalgia, Senor CS, Hijacked, and the medley of Five Peace Band/Mother Tongues among others. I am very thankful to be living in a time where I can celebrate the living of my life by listening to, and being inspired by the majestic, passionate, beautiful, emotional, heartfelt and completely unique musical mastery that can only be created by Mr. John McLaughlin. Thank you JML and 4th Dimension for a wonderful show. (I look forward to hearing Recovery at a future show.)
I can’t wait to buy a 2 cd live set from this tour, or perhaps a dvd of the Abstract Logix festival which takes place next week (hint, hint)! Man would I love to be there for that…. Until next time, I say thank you again for sharing your creative gifts with your audience.
    Sincerely – R. Aitken

Hello, Attended the Town Hall show. Set was similar to previous post by Randy though I did hear a version of Resolution from the Birds of Fire. One of the best shows I have seen since first seeing John at central park in the 70′s. The whole band was very Dynamic. I will be down in NC for the Abstact L, shows. Peace, John

Greetings, attended the St. Louis show (only 4hr drv, worth every second) at the incredible Sheldon Music Hall. On walking in I was stunned to see how small and intimate the place was, according to a local sitting next to me the best place for a show in all of St. Louis. The acoustics in the place made for an absolute power rocker, as close to mahavishnu/one truth band as one could hope for in the 2nd decade of the 21st century. John top of his game, someone yelled out “still the man, some things never change” unfortuately things change but in this case they haven’t changed yet, John you proved “it” once again…way to go John! Not bad for someone in their mid 40′s. What a band! “The Clash” of Jazz…I think I should go to bed now.

Me and my brother see John McLaughlin in Playa del Carmen in Mexico, and was the most incredible I’ve seen in my life…
Thanks John for your music, I’m your number 1 fan in Mexico.
    God bless you and greetings.

Went to see the show at UCLA / Royce Hall last night.. We’re still buzzing! Yowza what an awesome and magical concert!

  • 48 Big Ears // Dec 3, 2010 at 3:34 am

Still in amazement from last night’s Royce Hall concert in LA. John is in top form and extremely personable, making this very intimate venue even more of an experience. JML just ripped and played two of my favorites, Marilina and To the One were outstanding. Gary Husband was fantastic and his sessions on the drums with Mark Mondesir, who is in a class of his own. New bassist Etienne M’Bappe played lock-step with John on Recovery and that had the packed house in awe….A must see…Thank you John and band! Now if I could just get a set list for this show….

  • 49 Ingvay7 // Dec 4, 2010 at 9:35 pm

Saw the Mahavishnu John Mclaughlin and the incredible 4 th Dimension at Tucson last night. They brought the place down. Incredible stunning….mind-blowing….no point in trying to find the right adjective. last time I saw JM was in Mumbai wiht Remembering Shakti and the man seems to get better with age…a true genius.

  • 50 Tyler // Dec 8, 2010 at 7:35 pm

Caught the Portland show last night. The band was incredible, of course. Great set list, superb musicianship. The sound, however, was terribly disappointing. The mix levels were off (while Husband was on the drums, for instance, his bass drum drowned out the entire band all by itself) and eq-ing was nonexistent – muddy bottom end and highs lost in way too much mid. Moved around during the show to see if the sound was better elsewhere in the theater (I was front and center, two rows back), and it was actually worse. The sound coming to the balcony was a mudslide. And if you hang around to meet John, don’t stay inside the venue. John’s handler came in and told the 10 or so people who were waiting that John would be coming out in 5 minutes. Turns out he was lying to keep us inside so he could sneak John out the back. We stood inside for almost half an hour, and one of the venue’s employees piped up and told us John was outside. I got to him just as his handler was literally pushing John into their minivan (silver Dodge) to get him away from the three or four strong rabid throng of fans who just wanted to meet the guy and maybe get a pic or autograph. Disappointing end to an overall mediocre concert.
