Ridiculously belated bithday wishes, John - I saw you in Norwich last Wednesday evening - just as I saw you there with Shakti in 1978 - and many times with Mahahishnu I and II. The best I can do is post below my Amazon review of the incomparable "Inner Mounting Flame". It may be completely beyond possibility, but you must know that there are many many thousands of us who would travel across the world to see a gig by the re-formed original Orchestra.
Thank you.

Music, the like of which you'll have never heard before, 27 May 2009
By Richard House (London, UK) - See all my reviews

This review is from: The Inner Mounting Flame (Audio CD)
I'm in my mid-50s now, yet this album is still the most extraordinary piece of music I have ever heard. It also changed my life when I first heard it - under the bed covers listening to John Peel on my pocket trannie in 1973; and I remember how enthused John was with the album (before it became hip to loath jazz fusion). I'd never ever heard music like it before, and I haven't since, either. I profoundly disagree with the other two reviewers about 'Lotus on Irish Streams' - McLaughlin's, Goodman's and Hammer's playing on this dream-of-a-track is quite breathtaking, and for me their soaring spiritual synergy sums up what the original Orchestra was all about. As the book on the Orchestra says, this truly was 'the greatest band that ever was'. At less than a fiver, this is unbelievable value - and if you're wondering what all the fuss is about via-a-vis John McLaughlin's legendary Mahavishnu Orchestra, this has to be the definitive place to start.

A belated birthday greeting to the main man!
In 1973, I got a record voucher for my 21st. birthday. I picked up the album Inner Mounting Flame, knew nothing about John McLaughlin but the album cover looked good, guitar and electric violin, an interesting combination I thought. Up to then I had been listening to Clapton, Hendrix and Rory Gallagher. I put the Mahavishnu Orchestra on my turntable and my world changed forever. I had entered an age of discovery, an 'awakening'. For the first time music had reached my soul. Thanks John

Dear John,
thank you for your great, blessed music. You and your work continue to inspire me since the mid-seventies, when I first heard your records and tried to seek out the chords. Also the books and filosophies that were sources of inspiration to you, became important in my own life.
salam, warm regards,
Hans

You have always been my favorite guitarist, and your music has been an inspiration to me in a big way. It helped me win the overall title in the California State Bodybuilding Championship back in 1981. Since then, I have gone on to invent a form of geometric art Called "Cyphometry" (U.S. patent pending) there is nothing quite it on the net. If your looking for some New fresh Ideas for a CD cover I may have something you like. (This is not a pitch and NO CHARGE of course) It's the least I can do and I feel I owe you one. LOL. Happy birthday John, sorry I'm late. Long live the King of guitar... you are the Best!...Eddie.

You touched my life with joy. I met a lot of cool people lately who are 68. I myself am 55, a long ways from when I first heard you at 19 the Boston Music Hall. The hair still rises on the back of my neck (what little is still on my head) when I hear your music. Wishing you many more wonderful birthdays.
