To all our friends.

Our new website has been up for about a year now, and I had written a piece called ‘A New Karuna’, part of which is the background music to the site. Many people have written to us enquiring about this music and if they could obtain it somewhere.

Since it was never recorded, it was unavailable. This Christmas my wife Ina and I have decided to make a special offer to those who are interested in having the entire piece. There will be no charge for downloading ‘A New Karuna’ to anyone, but there will be the possibility to make a donation to an organization who are doing wonderful work for abandoned children in India called Indian Smiles.

We have been associated with this group for some years now and we can whole-heartedly recommend them, and furthermore, we guarantee that all the funds collected from the ‘A New Karuna’ download will be given over to the organization.

In addition the people in Indian Smiles devote their time and work voluntarily. This means that all the money collected will go towards helping the children who are the only beneficiaries here. Any donation will be acceptable, but even if you don’t have any money you can still download the piece and always make a donation at some later date if you wish. There’s no obligation. We would also extend our gratitude to our associate Abstract Logix and their partner Beet, Inc for offering this download service free of charge. In ending, we would like to thank all our friends known and unknown, who support our work, and send them our joyful wishes for the season and the New Year.

What a year this has been so far! We have had The Five Peace Band and The 4th Dimension performing live and now, as a special treat, the composition related to a very well constructed home page – with the possibility of donating – to a most noble cause. Good luck with the tour of 2009!

    Dear John, Hi Website team,
    just a little bug report
your website is a really beautiful one. But all inks are damaged now, since you dont use the translator plugin anymore. Still all links have the language codes /en_GB/ in its URLs, but this URLs dont exist anymore on your page.

Merry Christmas to everybody and a happy New Year.

    Love
    Peter

I would just like to say that John, you are without any shadow of a doubt the world’s best guitarist and fully deserve a knighthood for your contribution to music. My best regards also go to your fellow indian musicians, i.e. Shiv Sharma, Zakir Hussain, U Srinivas and V Selvaganesh et al.
    All the very, very best!!!

To my guitar hero, I too want to thank you for some of the most interesting music on this planet. Your influence on my playing cannot be denied. I wish you, your family, and all that work with you a prosperous year. I am looking forward to the concert in Berkeley this March.

Namaste John: 1,001 blessings upon you & yours for creating many, many moments of joy & bliss in my life & music over the years… since my Dad & I saw you electrify with Miles back in 1969. In ’84, I had the pleasure of studying tabla with ZH at the Vedic Cultural Center in Berkeley CA, and he was amused that I had already memorized “Kriti” and that I could also sing the melodies from Inner Mounting Flame. A few years ago, I listen to a Shakti LP after it had hidden for many years in my closet and fell i love with it all over again. Then (to my chagrin) I discovered that I had just missed your ‘Remember Shakti’ tour by a few days(!) Please bring that Joy back many times! Anytime you can bring your light back to San Francisco and shine with us a little bit here, I offer you (and whoever else you have with you) a place to rest and break bread at my house. Thank you also for the link to Indian Smiles: I sent them a few dollars to add my tiny seedling to the ‘forest’ that needs to be grown there. Onwards & Upwards!
As my Dad (also a John) said, “Play Long & Live Longer!”
    Love, Floaty
