Recorded live last June at Boston’s Berklee Performance Center, « The Boston Record » (Abstract Logix) links John McLaughlin to his early days as a jazz-fusion pioneer. It includes a new take on « You Know You Know, » which appeared on his Mahavishnu Orchestra’s 1971 album, « The Inner Mounting Flame. » And it was north of Boston, at the now-long-gone jazz club Lennie’s on the Turnpike, that Miles Davis took his guitarist aside and told him, « It’s time to form your own band, » which led to the birth of Mahavishnu—one of the most influential jazz-fusion groups of the 1970s.
