It is a little puzzling, though, why a great artist like John McLaughlin should be talking cliches about spiritual quests, the nature and meaning of human existence, etc. Words betray him here, and there is no need of them anyway: it is all amply articulated in his music, which is a different kind of intelligence that renders irrelevant verbal articulation.
